Aromatherapy,
Incenses and smudging herbs
Smudging is a sacred
tradition that has its roots in the indigenous cultures of the world. As a
tradition, it has been passed on for millennia, and many ways and variations
exist. The common thread is that the smoke from sacred herbs can be used for
purification and spiritual preparation.
We can smudge to clear and
ground ourselves and our intentions before and after healing, initiation and
ritual. The smoke will help purify our crystals and other sacred objects. We can
clear rooms and create sacred space. The herbs can also be burned to give thanks
and to aid us in our prayers.

Incienso
resin
This
is an special and very valuable resin from the rainforest of Peru, called
commonly Incienso (incense), altough this name is not specifical as different
trees produce natural resins this is not a blend but a rare natural resin used
mainly as incense. I am very interested to find more natural resins with
potential as incense and as a source for essential oils.

Peruvian
Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
It
has been used from remote ages as an ingredient in incense, perfumes, etc., in
the holy oil of the Jews and the Kyphi
of the Egyptians for embalming and fumigations. Burning myrrh is believed to
send evil spirits away. It purifies ritual tools, as does frankincense or a
mixture of the two and is believed to bring good fortune and money. Myrrh
fortifies the nerves and emotions. It replaces feelings of apathy, weakness and
lack of initiative with motivation, power and strength. Myrrh provides the
clarity, focus and strength to pull through troubled times. Its cooling and
calming effect subdues angry or inflamed emotional states.

Copal (Protium
grandifolium)
Black
Copal, one of the most important incense-burning substances of the ancient
American cultures, was believed to be a heavenly, sacred resin embodying the
presence of the divine. It is written in the Mayan "Book of Wisdom"
that copal was extracted from the tree of life by the divine god of the earth
and given to humans as a gift. The Incas assigned copal resin to the sun and
burned it on golden plates. Harvested in the Great Amazonian Rainforest.

Toronjil
(Melissa officinalis)
The
most notable cognitive and mood effects were improved memory performance
and increased “calmness” at all postdose time points for the highest
(1600 mg) dose. The results suggest that doses of Melissa officinalis at
or above the maximum employed here can improve cognitive performance and
mood and may therefore can be a valuable adjunct in the treatment of
Alzheimer`s disease. (Human Cognitive Neurosience Unit, Division of
