Trichocereus Peruvianus from seed:

This cactus is relatively easy from seed. As with most cacti the main requirement is patience.

 • Choose a well draining soil mix. Any standard cactus mix is sufficient or you can make your own by mixing equal parts sterilized loam (soil) and perlite (pumice stone)

 • Fill a pot or tray with the mix then stand in a tray of tepid water, until the compost surface is moist. Remove the pots from the water & scatter the seed evenly over the surface. It is beneficial to lightly mist the seeds to bed them into the mix.

 • Enclose the pot in a ziplock bag or cover with plastic to help retain moisture. Alternatively, place in a propagator.

Place in bright shade, NOT direct sun, ideally with a temperature of 70˚f - 80˚f

• Seeds should germinate within 1 to 3 weeks but some may take longer.

After most have sprouted the plastic can be removed and a thin layer of fine gravel can be lightly sprinkled around the tiny seedlings.

 • Grow on in bright indirect light (not full sun) and water once a week by placing pots in a tray of tepid water, or mist the compost to retain it lightly moist until the cactus are large enough to water from above (1 to 2 cm)

 • Once the cactus are large enough (usually after 1 to 2 years) they can be separated and planted in individual pots.

 • Enjoy
