Psychotria Viridis from seed:

Can take a while to germinate (6 – 16 weeks) depending mostly on freshness of seed from harvest.

 • Soak the seeds in a mild bleach solution (2 tablespoons of bleach in a cup (8 oz) of water) for 15 minutes* then rinse and soak the seeds in sterile water for 12 - 24 hours

*Note. This step may not be necessary with very fresh seed as germination usually occurs before mould sets in.

 • Plant the seeds 8mm deep in any standard potting compost or seed starting mix.

 • Water the compost from below by placing in a tray of tepid water until the surface is evenly moist. Enclose the pots in a ziplock bag to conserve moisture or place in a propagator.

 • Keep the temperature around 70-80 degrees F. (22-28 degrees C.)  but out of direct sun.

A heated propagator gives excellent results.

It is essential that the compost is kept evenly moist, and never allowed to dry out.

 • After the seed has germinated, wait until the third pair of leaves have appeared before carefully separating into individual pots. Grow on in similar conditions (temp / humidity / light) as the germination phase to avoid shock to the newly transplanted seedlings. After a while the plants can be slowly adapted to more diverse conditions.

 • Enjoy!
