Psychotria
Viridis from seed:
Can
take a while to germinate (6 16 weeks) depending mostly on freshness of seed
from harvest.
Soak the seeds in a mild bleach solution (2
tablespoons of bleach in a cup (8 oz) of water) for 15 minutes* then rinse and
soak the seeds in sterile water for 12 - 24 hours
*Note.
This step may not be necessary with very fresh seed as germination usually
occurs before mould sets in.
Plant
the seeds 8mm deep in any standard potting compost or seed starting mix.
Water the compost from below by placing in a tray of tepid water until the
surface is evenly moist. Enclose the pots in a ziplock bag to conserve moisture
or place in a propagator.
Keep
the temperature around 70-80 degrees F. (22-28 degrees C.)
but
out of direct sun.
A
heated propagator gives excellent results.
It
is essential that the compost is kept evenly moist, and never allowed to dry
out.
After the seed has germinated, wait until the third pair of leaves have appeared
before carefully separating into individual pots. Grow on in similar conditions
(temp / humidity / light) as the germination phase to avoid shock to the newly
transplanted seedlings. After a while the plants can be slowly adapted to more
diverse conditions.
Enjoy!
